Parking meter rates increase, how is it affecting you?

Parking Rate Increase while Decreases Parking

As many may have noticed, the City has decided to raise the price you pay at parking meters, and those increases have been showing up all around town. In Lincoln Heights for instance, the parking lot behind the 99¢ has increased the rates by 400%. One dollar an hour might not seem that much to some, but it’s really exorbitant for many working people.

What is the effect of these crazy prices? Nobody is parking in the parking lot. This is around 11:30 on Sunday Feb 15, a time when this lot would normally be almost full from people shopping on N. Broadway. Like many others, I went and found a spot on the non-metered neighborhood streets nearby. This is a crazy sight, If you’ve ever been in this lot on a pre-increase day, you’ll know what I mean.

The City is on the verge of bankruptcy, teachers are going to be laid off, police laid off in certain communities, services are being cut. How is the city supposed to make money? I for one am not appalled at paying $1 an hour for parking. Cheap by some standards.

I would agree if the money gathered would be going back to rebuild the economy, but Its going to a ' general fund ' that can be used for anything the City wishes to do. Antonio V, did take all his staff to Israel a few weeks back with that money.

Instead of imposing the increase parking fees on the working class people, why not cut the expensive trips for the city officials and their entourage to foreign land.

Exactly, why should we be forced to pay for that? Churches are being closed down, people are loosing jobs, and Villaraigosa is enjoying himself. Thats alot of B.S.

You need to do a little more reserch into these trips to Israel etc etc, it's not exactly Maui and it most certainly wasn't a "pleasure" trip.

Israel is a place located in a hotbed of terrorism, and one of the primary purposes of the trip was to become familiar with Israel’s impressive security apparatus to make improvements at Los Angeles International Airport and the city’s mammoth seaport. Israel does well protecting itself from it's enemies and terrorist attacks, and the Mayor went there to see how these things can be implemented here at home. If you aren't poor enough to ride the bus and actually have a car you really shouldn't be complaining about $1 an hour parking.

Those poor enough to be negatively impacted by a $1 hour parking meters can't afford cars or the gas to put in them.
